Join the MUSIC MAKES ME HAPPY Chorus in exploring Concord's role in the Abolition era and the Underground Railroad. Sing the spirituals that guided enslaved people to freedom and hear stories of brave Concordians like the Thoreau and Alcott families. Songs include: Go Down, Moses; Follow the Drinking Gourd; Swing Low; Swing Chariot; others. Guest Speaker: Richard Smith has worked in Concord as a public historian and Living History Interpreter for 25 years and has portrayed Henry Thoreau at Walden Pond, around the country, and in Canada. He has written/edited 11 books and is a regular contributor to DISCOVER CONCORD.

On Sunday, January 26, 2025 at 3PM, Kevin Francis Murphy, piano; Rob Hammerton, piano, electric bass; Ciaran Murphy, drums, cello; Käthe Jackson, violin, guitar; Ryan DeFoe, piano, vocals; and Woody Carpinella, guitar will present Connexions Concert II of this program year at Sudbury United Methodist Church. The event will feature works and arrangements by Kevin Francis Murphy, Jason Robert Brown, Stephen Sondheim, Ryan DeFoe, Kevin Francis Murphy, Ciaran Murphy, Käthe Jackson and others. The selections present a wide assortment of various styles including classical, ragtime, pop, blues and folk. The Connexions concerts at Sudbury United Methodist showcase the various talents of church members and guest artists who come to share their music. The concert will take place at Sudbury United Methodist Church, 251 Old Sudbury Road, Sudbury, Massachusetts. We will observe COVID protocols as we have followed them this past year in services: optional masking, distancing, ventilation and open windows. Because we will have fresh air in the sanctuary, kindly dress for a cool afternoon. A reception will follow the concert. Admission is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be taken to benefit the United Methodist Committtee on Relief work in Los Angeles to help victims of the wildfires.
